Advanced Roadway delivers repeatable realism, improved comfort evaluationThe test track is an important tool for engineers that evaluate ride comfort, but a more precise and repeatable testing capability is available that complements the track.
Engineers can now impose biaxial road vibration through the contact patch of a spinning tire driven by a loaded powertrain using the Flat-Trac® Dynamic Roadway System. The system combines proven (four-post) road simulation and MTS flat-belt roadway technology driven by high-performance electric motors to deliver more realistic road simulation in the lab.
Repeatable evaluation of comfort in the lab is a key benefit because it reduces time consuming development work done on the track. Tire-coupled road simulation is another benefit because acquired road data for one vehicle can be used to develop road libraries that may be used for other vehicles. This freedom permits side-by-side, empirical comparisons between diverse vehicles. Use of libraries saves valuable track data acquisition time for succeeding vehicles.
