Engineered for complex handling studies, the full-featured MTS Flat-Trac Handling Roadway (HRW) offers the versatility and real-world simulation capabilities needed to evaluate ADAS and AV system performance against all scenarios of a vehicle’s operational design domain.
HRW systems combine longitudinal, vertical, and steer excitation (slip angle) at each tire patch while utilizing a Center of Gravity Restraint (CGR) restraining the vehicle body to evaluate vehicles within a broad range of real-world vehicle maneuvers. These range from every day driving events like a single lane change, double lane change, turning a corner or braking in a straight line, to highly dynamic driving scenarios like rollover propensity testing.
Using hybrid simulation techniques, the utility of the HRW can be extended to meet a range of ADAS and AV development, validation, and certification applications.
» Programmed driving simulations could be played out on full vehicles mounted on an HRW to speed validation of ADAS technologies, presenting a more accurate, repeatable and efficient method than the test track or simulation alone.
» Using mHIL, an HRW driving a real axle suspension and steering subassembly in an MTS Axle Carrier Fixture (ACF) can be integrated into a modeled vehicle and driving environment loop to enable early acquisition of objective and some subjective performance data.
» An HRW driving a full vehicle or axle subassembly can be integrated with an MTS Vehicle Dynamics Simulator (VDS) to immerse human drivers and occupants into a low latency simulation loop, enabling early acquisition of high-fidelity subjective and objective performance data.
